Fairchild-Newman Staff Writer The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce recently debuted its new Web site, and the response from members and nonmembers is very positive, officials say. “We couldn’t be more pleased,” said Julie Metz, executive director of the local chamber. “The board and I are looking at this as an investment that will benefit the chamber for many years to come.
We aren’t going to outgrow this quickly.” The Web site, www.shelbychamber.net, was designed by WebLink International, an Indianapolis company that specializes in Web sites for chambers and other data-based organizations. Metz explored having the Web site created locally, but she was steered toward WebLink by other technology companies. Although she is pleased with the looks of the new site, Metz is especially excited about the data management software that was purchased to complement the site.
The software will document all contacts the chamber makes with members and track referrals that are made to member companies. It also will keep tabs on member activities and provide a calendar of events. The software will even delete events after they take place so they won’t have to be removed manually.
One of the best features of the new Web site, according to Metz, is the ability of the chamber to update information internally instead of sending changes to the Web design company and waiting for them to make the modifications. Coming soon, the site will allow members to pay their bills online with credit cards through a secure site.
